Singapore acceded in January 2021 (effective September 2021), with SAL as the designated Competent Authority. If your translation is already notarised in Singapore, MOFA attestation in Putrajaya is generally not required — that step is only needed when documents are used directly in a third country.

Choosing the right service
ICA accepts translations done by an embassy or notarised by a Notary Public in Singapore or Malaysia. Some ICA submissions accept certified translation alone, while PR, Citizenship, LTVP and Dependant’s Pass applications most often require notarised translation with SAL authentication. Check the exact wording in your ICA letter — terms like “notarised” or “Notary Public” signal the higher tier is required. Send us your letter and we’ll confirm before you order.

No. If your translation is notarised in Singapore, MOFA attestation in Putrajaya is generally not necessary, because the notarisation is already valid within Singapore’s jurisdiction. MOFA attestation is mainly needed when a Malaysian document is used directly in a third country outside Singapore.

Yes. Singapore acceded to the Apostille Convention in January 2021, which came into force in September 2021. The Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) is Singapore’s designated Competent Authority for issuing apostilles and authenticating notarised documents.
SAL authentication is the verification stamp issued by the Singapore Academy of Law validating a notarised document for official Singapore submissions. Since 1 October 2019, ICA requires SAL authentication on all notarised documents — a notarisation without it will be rejected. We include SAL authentication in every notarised translation order.
