Questions answered
Everything Malaysians in Singapore need to know about notarised translations for ICA, MOM and other agencies
Yes. ICA requires all non-English documents submitted for PR and citizenship applications to be both translated into English and notarised by a Notary Public from Singapore or from the originating country of issue e.g. Malaysia. A certified translation alone is not accepted.Â
A certified translation is signed by the translator confirming accuracy. A notarised translation goes further — a Singapore Notary Public (a senior lawyer) verifies the translator’s identity and witnesses the signature under oath. ICA and most Singapore government agencies require notarised translations, not just certified ones, for official submissions.
Notarised translation for Malaysian documents costs SGD 150 per document. This flat fee covers translation, notarisation by a Notary Public. There are no hidden fees, so you always know the exact cost upfront. We guarantee acceptance by Singapore authorities.
SAL authentication is a mandatory step where the Singapore Academy of Law verifies the Notary Public’s signature. Since 1 October 2019, all notarised documents submitted to ICA must be SAL-authenticated to be valid. ICA also accepts documents notarised in the the country of origin e.g a Malaysian SPM cert notarised in Malaysia.
Malaysian documents commonly required as notarised translations for ICA PR applications include birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce certificates, death certificates, SPM and academic certificates, Borang K, EPF statements, and bank statements. Every stamp, seal, and handwritten note on the original must also be translated to avoid rejection.
Yes, even if the certificate appears bilingual. ICA requires a professional notarised translation of the full document, including all Malay-language fields, stamps, and endorsements. Submitting only the English portion of a bilingual certificate is not sufficient. A notarised translation ensures every detail is officially verified and accepted by ICA.
Standard notarised translation for Malaysian documents takes 24 to 48 hours from payment. Same-day delivery is available for urgent ICA or MOM submissions — contact us via WhatsApp to confirm availability. Turnaround applies to single-page Malaysian personal documents sent as clear photos or scans.
Yes. MOM accepts notarised translations for Employment Pass, S Pass, and work permit applications where supporting documents are in a language other than English. Unlike ICA, MOM sometimes accepts certified translations without notarisation — but notarised translations are always accepted and recommended to avoid requests for re-submission.
You can send a clear photo or scan via WhatsApp or email to begin the translation. For most Malaysian personal documents we work entirely from digital copies. If the Notary Public requires sight of the original, we will notify you before any work begins and advise the best way to proceed.
If ICA, MOM, or any stated authority rejects a translation because of an error on our part, we correct it at no charge or provide a full refund. Our 100% acceptance guarantee applies to every document we produce. We follow each agency’s published checklist and format translations accordingly before submission.
Our notarised translations are accepted by ICA, MOM, ACRA, ROM, LTA, Singapore courts, and major embassies. All translations are prepared in accordance with each authority’s published document requirements. Our 100% acceptance guarantee covers all listed agencies.
No we cannot as the notary public needs to witness the signing of the certified translation.
