About the document

What is the STPM?

Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM)

Malaysia’s pre-university qualification, equivalent to A-Levels. Administered by Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia (MPM). Completed after Form 6. Uses CGPA grading (4.00 = A). Distinct from the SPM — represents a higher level of education and is commonly declared in MOM S Pass applications. Many STPM certificates issued before 2010 are in Malay and require certified English translation.

Avoid costly delays

Why translations get rejected

A rejected submission means a delayed application. These are the most common causes — and how our process prevents each one.

  • Subject names not translated against Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia's official English curriculum names

  • CGPA grading scale not explained or translated consistently

  • Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia stamp or serial number omitted

  • STPM and SPM confused — wrong certificate submitted for the application

  • Missing SAL authentication when notarisation required for ICA

  • Acceptance guarantee: if your submission is rejected due to an error in our translation, notarisation or SAL authentication, we correct it at no charge.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about this document type for MOM and ICA Singapore.

Does MOM require a translated STPM certificate for an S Pass application?
Yes. If your STPM is in Malay, MOM requires a certified English translation for S Pass applications. The original and translation must be uploaded as a single merged PDF on the myMOM portal. Certified translation is sufficient — notarisation is not required for MOM S Pass.
What is the difference between STPM and SPM for translation purposes?

The STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia) is a pre-university qualification equivalent to A-Levels, administered by Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia (MPM). The SPM is the secondary school certificate. Both may be required for ICA or MOM submissions, but they are separate documents issued by different authorities.

Do STPM subject names need to match MPM's official English equivalents?

Yes. Subject names must be translated against the official English curriculum names published by Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia — not translated generically. Inconsistent subject names are a common rejection point.

Does the CGPA grading in an STPM certificate need to be translated?

Yes. The CGPA grading system (4.00 = A, 3.67 = A–, etc.) should be translated consistently and explained. MOM needs to assess the educational level accurately under its qualification verification requirements.

Does ICA require a notarised STPM translation for PR?

Yes. For ICA PR and Citizenship, STPM certificates submitted as supporting education documents require notarised translation with SAL authentication.

Can I translate my STPM and SPM certificate together?

Yes. Bundle pricing is available for STPM + SPM submitted together. Contact us with both documents for a combined quote.

How much does STPM certificate translation cost in Singapore?

Certified translation starts from S$60 per document. Bundle pricing is available for STPM + SPM. Notarised translation (Notary Public + SAL) starts from S$150.
