ICA sets a deadline to upload after oath-taking

Where does translation fit in?
Understanding where Borang K translation fits within the full renunciation process helps you plan your timeline and avoid a missed ICA deadline.
ICA approves your Singapore Citizenship application and issues a Letter of Approval instructing you to renounce your Malaysian citizenship.
Submit Borang K (yellow form), MY-RN1, Malaysian IC, Singapore IC, birth certificate and supporting documents. Fee: S$10. Collect MY-RN1 (in English) approximately 3 working days later.
Attend ICA (6th floor, Kallang Road) with MY-RN1 for Singapore Citizenship registration and Oath of Renunciation, Allegiance and Loyalty. Upload photo to ICA portal. Fee: S$70–S$80.
Malaysian High Commission processes the renunciation and prepares the approved Borang K. You will be notified by email when it is ready for collection. Do not contact them to chase.

Borang K is in Malay only. ICA requires a certified English translation before it can be submitted. Order translation immediately after collecting — ICA has set you a deadline. Turnaround: 24–48 hours.
Log in to MyICA e-Service and upload your translated Borang K under 'upload additional documents'. For applications from 26 June 2024 onwards this is done online. Meet the ICA deadline stated in your letter.
Your renunciation of Malaysian citizenship is confirmed. You can attend the Singapore Citizenship Ceremony and collect your Pink IC and passport.
ICA's policy states that documents not in English must be officially translated. The Borang K is the only document in the renunciation process that is issued entirely in Bahasa Malaysia. ICA will not accept it untranslated — and will not process your citizenship registration to completion without it.

FAQ
Answers to the most common questions about Borang K translation for ICA Singapore citizenship registration.
About Borang K & the translation requirement
Borang K (Sijil Melepaskan Diri daripada Kerakyatan Malaysia) is the official Certificate of Renunciation of Malaysian Citizenship — the yellow form issued by the Malaysian government after approving your renunciation application. It is issued by the Consular Division of the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore and contains the applicant’s personal details, the date and basis of renunciation, and official Malaysian government stamps and endorsements. The entire document is in Bahasa Malaysia only.
ICA accepts either a certified translation or a notarised translation of Borang K. We recommend notarised translation because it meets the highest ICA standard and removes all ambiguity. Given the significance of Borang K to your Singapore Citizenship process and the ICA deadline pressure, the marginal extra cost of notarisation is strongly justified.
Your Borang K translation can be notarised by a Singapore Notary Public, or from the issuing country ie Malaysia. A translation from a private company without notarisation is not accepted by ICA. Since October 2019, a notarisation stamp is also required..
Process & ICA submission
Yes. ICA sets a deadline for submitting Borang K after the Oath of Renunciation ceremony. The specific deadline will be stated in your ICA letter. Missing this deadline can delay or jeopardise your Singapore Citizenship registration. We recommend ordering the translation the same day you collect your Borang K from the Malaysian High Commission.
No. ICA does not accept machine translations including Google Translate or AI-generated outputs for official citizenship documents. The translation must be produced by a qualified human translator and accompanied by a certification statement or notarisation to be valid. Submitting a machine translation is one of the causes of Borang K rejection.
Yes. All official stamps, Consular seals, approval endorsements and Malaysian government markings on the Borang K must be translated or described in the English translation. Omitting the Malaysian High Commission Consular seal is one of the most common causes of Borang K translation rejection at ICA.
